In response to Resolution #1 passed at the 175th Convention of the Diocese of California, a new diocesan project is underway to confront and counter the growing threat of Christian nationalism. This initiative affirms the Church’s commitment to love, justice, and the dignity of every human being, and condemns Christian nationalism as contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Over a three-year period, this bishop-appointed task force of clergy and lay leaders will develop a comprehensive digital toolkit of resources and best practices for use across congregations, schools, and diocesan institutions. The toolkit will include sermon materials, educational content, social media guidelines, and actionable steps to equip Episcopalians in resisting Christian nationalism and promoting an inclusive, Gospel-centered faith.
Building on the Episcopal Church’s broader decolonization efforts and in partnership with diocesan justice staff, this project will empower communities to speak boldly and faithfully against ideologies of division and exclusion—offering a clear and compassionate witness to Christ’s message of love and peace.
